The younger and older babies are split into two groups and have an area especially
allocated to them. Toddlers also have their own area.

Activities are planned and guidance is taken from the Birth to Three Matters Framework to help them develop and extend their individual needs.

Daily Requirements

Parents are required to provide a named bag containing the following items and all to be
individually marked:

• Two changes of clothes

• Disposable nappies

• Sterilised feeding bottles and teats with made up formula

• Creams and wet wipes

Potty Training

Potty training is a happy process and the staff will advise you on the best time to try
potty training your child. There is not a fixed age for this so please do not worry if
everyone tells you your child is late. All wet nappies are changed in the toilet area
and the toddler is put onto the potty. Soon the toddler produces a wee and is praised.
Please note elasticised waistbands are preferred rather than dungarees.

Sleep times

Please let the staff know if you require your toddler to have a sleep. This will normally
be after lunch but times may vary according to individual needs.

PRE-SCHOOL

Pre-school children will still enjoy all the nursery activities ie painting, sand, water,
gluing, dressing up and generally learning social skills within the group. We will have a
project theme every month where we invite visitors to the nursery ie Police, Road Safety
Officer, to tell the children what they do. The children will talk to the visitors, draw
and paint their experiences and tell their parents about them.

The pre-school unit concentrates specifically on helping the children develop
intellectually, educationally, personally, socially and emotionally.

Our pre-school curriculum is planned by staff weekly, termly and yearly. Over a period of a year, we aim to cover the whole of the alphabet and all the main colours, numbers, shapes and various types of animals. However, some aspects may be covered more than once in order to familiarise the concept within the child’s memory and to enable all the children to have the same opportunities to learn.

Each month we concentrate on a specific topic. These topics can cover health issues,
multi-cultural topics and environmental issues.

One hour per session is specifically set aside for pre-school activities. These are number,
language or topic related. We look at the weather each day; have circle time and role-play in story time. Approximately twenty minutes of this pre-school time is spent on a more structured activity. This encourages the child to manipulate their concentration skills on the set task.

We use a French educational programme called Muzzy the Bear. This is designed to give
the children the opportunity to learn and experience a new language using computer
programmes and DVD’s. We liaise with local schools and when your child leaves the nursery to start school we produce transfer documents to enable the teacher to know your child's developmental stage.

All three nurseries cater for school children with "before" and "after" school clubs; this caters for children up to the age of 12 years old. Our staff are able to pick up your children from any local school in the areas in which each nursery is based.
